The Man Who Saved Thousands

The Nazis

"The National Socialist Revolution was almost entirely a bloodless proceeding. When the party took over power in Germany, after overthrowing the very formidable obstacles that had stood in its way, it did so without causing any damage whatsoever to property. I can say with a certain amount of pride that this was the first revolution in which not even a window-pane was broken."

- Adolf Hitler at the Reichstag on January 30, 1937.

In 1930, the Nazis became the second largest political party in Germany. Throughout the next several years, the Nazis created a state of panic in Germany, first by burning the Reichstag building and blaming the Communists, and later through propaganda, e.g. the above quote. They eventually succeeded in frightening the German people into making Adolf Hitler their dictator. Hitler then began his campaign to create a thousand-year German empire in Europe.

The Allies

"if we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted science. Let us therefore brace ourselves to our duties, and so bear ourselves that, if the British Empire and its Commonwealth last for a thousand years, men will still say, 'This was their finest hour.'"

- Sir Winston Churchill, at the House of Commons on June 18, 1940.

The Allied forces were made up of many different countries, including: the U.S., Great Britain, France, and later the Soviet Union. Though they joined at different times and for different reasons, they all fought not only to halt the Axis Power's aggression but also to end the atrocities being committed by Nazi Germany.
